We met again just the other day
Smiled and talked in the usual way
You said, "how're you doing?" I said, "not that bad
"But this time last year I wasn't far from mad
"You see my woman went and left me without telling me why
"It's been quite a trying time"
And you just stood and smiled
We went downtown to this small café
Took our time to listen, had a lot to say
Been a while ago since we'd had the time
But to make you smile still did feel just fine
Then you asked me, "does it still feel right to not be with me?"
And I said, "wait and see, love
"Feels right to wait and see"
Time is passing and lives have changed
Thoughts have gone, feelings rearranged
Years ago I'd have liked to stay
But I left and stayed away
Now time has come to pay
You called me up just the other day
And said, "it crossed my mind you're too far away
"I'd like to see you but my car has died
"So could you please come?" And I said with a smile
"You know I really can't afford it but I'll call you tomorrow"
And sooner or later I'd come I know
Time is passing and lives have changed
Thoughts have gone, feelings rearranged
Years ago I'd have liked to stay
But I left and stayed away
Now time has come to pay
Since staying away didn't feel okay
I came for a visit just the other day
Your mother opened and said, "come inside
"You know I'd like to tell you if you don't mind
"I've seen boys come and go and she had quite a few
"But she's often talked of you
"I think she always dreamed of you"
And as I looked in her eyes it occurred to me
This was the place to be
It had taken me years to see
Time is passing and lives have changed
Thoughts have gone, feelings rearranged
Years ago I'd have liked to stay
But I left and stayed away
Now time has come to pay
Summer of '95.
