Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)

From the series "It's just too short, dude"

Original lyrics in normal print, by Billy Joel. My additions in italics. Original lyrics are still copyrighted by whoever they're copyrighted by, mine are in the public domain. Hope this covers it.

Anthony works in the grocery store
Saving his pennies for someday
Mama Leone left a note on the door
She said, Sonny move out to the country
Working too hard can give you a heart attack-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK!
You ought to know by now
Who needs a house out in Hackensack?
Is that what you get for your money?

It seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama if that's moving up then I'm moving out

Sergeant O'Leary is walking the beat
At night he becomes a bartender
He works at Mister Cacciatore's down on Sullivan Street
Across from the medical center
Then he's trading in his Chevy for a Cadillac-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK!
You ought to know by now
And if he can't drive with a broken back
At least he can polish the fenders

And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama if that's moving up then I'm moving out

You should never argue with a crazy mind-MIND-MIND-MIND-MIND-MIND!
You oughta know by now
You can pay Uncle Sam with overtime
Is that all you get for your money?

And if that's what you had in mind
Yeah if that's what you're all about
Good luck moving up cause I'm moving out

I'm moving out ...

Great song, Mr Joel, but it seems to me you lost your enthusiasm in the third (or rather, two-and-a-halfth) verse. I like the ACK-ACK-ACK especially, but the MIND-MIND-MIND just doesn't seem to fit. Hard to find enough rhymes with ACK, I grant you that. Thanks to computer terminology though, which wasn't invented when this song was written, and of course also thanks to putting up with being both very silly and slightly naughty, which wasn't its aim originally, I did find a couple though. Here we go:

Frank is admin in a hosting shop
An MCSE like so many
He has to argue with Accounting for the hardware he got
Down to the very last penny
And he's thrown out his NT box for a PowerMac-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK!
You ought to know by now
If there's no space in the server rack
The blame will be laid on you plenty

And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama if that's moving up then I'm moving out

You're back from the discount computer store
In need of becoming her hero
You didn't find a bloody thing she'd be adoring you for
But at least there's the update for Nero
But you'll never get the thing out of its blister pack-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK!
You ought to know by now
You can opt for a refund and take it back
If you want to start looking from zero

And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama if that's moving up then I'm moving out

So if you want to feel like you've got it made
And forget that your life's smelling funny
Your best bet for tonight is try getting laid
For at least that will make you feel sunny
My advice is to do it till your spine will crack-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK!
You ought to know by now
For the alternate choice is a bedtime snack

Is that all you get for your money?

And if that's what you had in mind
Yeah if that's what you're all about
Good luck moving up cause I'm moving out
